Louisville, KY— Goodwill Industries of Kentucky plans a grand opening celebration for its 65th retail location in Kentucky. The newly-constructed donation center and retail store, located at 12616 Taylorsville Road near the Gene Snyder Freeway, opened to donors and shoppers on Monday, April 24.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held Monday, May 8 at 12:00 PM with Greater Louisville Inc., special guest Metro Councilman Stuart Benson, and Goodwill’s local president and CEO, Amy Luttrell.
The new location for the Louisville-based nonprofit organization measures 11,800 square feet, with more than 7,600 square feet dedicated to sales floor space. The store currently employs 11 people and several positions are open. Job postings can be viewed at www.goodwillky.org/jobs.
“We’re excited to serve a new area of our community with the opening of this store,” said John Wade, vice president of retail and logistics for Goodwill Industries of Kentucky. “Adding retail locations allows us to grow resources that support programs for local job seekers who have the most difficulty finding and maintaining employment.”
Similar to Goodwill’s store that opened in Northfield at 4950 U.S. Hwy. 42 in October 2015, the Taylorsville Road store features an upgraded in-store experience that is part of the nonprofit’s statewide rebranding project.
“Stores we’ve added in the Louisville area in recent years look much more a part of their surrounding neighborhoods,” said Wade. “Now we’re turning our attention to the shopping experience inside to ensure that everyone feels welcomed and comfortable when they step through our doors.”
The new store features signage and infographics designed to connect shoppers with Goodwill’s mission, which is to help Kentuckians with disabilities or other challenges find and maintain employment. Revenue from Goodwill’s retail stores supports numerous employment-related programs across the state, including one program that helps employees maintain their jobs and set and achieve personal and professional goals. Last year, Goodwill placed Kentuckians into more than 2,800 jobs by partnering with 677 employers across the state, and it paid more than $15 million in wages to Kentuckians with disabilities or other barriers to employment.
Normal business hours for the Taylorsville Road store are 9 AM – 9 PM Monday through Saturday and 12 – 6 PM on Sunday.
