Edgar J. Helms Society

The Edgar J. Helms Society was created to honor the legacy of Goodwill founder Edgar J. Helms and the donors who share his vision of helping people with disabilities or other disadvantages. The Society, which honors donors who have made a planned gift to Goodwill, seeks to publicly thank and recognize those donors for their loyalty and lasting support.

As a member of the Society, you will receive recognition on a specially designed donor wall in Goodwill’s corporate offices. Society donors will also receive a special donor recognition plaque, invitations to Goodwill-sponsored events, and inclusion in Goodwill’s mailings and updates on the organization's growth and expansion across the state. There may also be naming opportunities.

Leaving a Legacy

Most of us would like to leave a lasting legacy. In the past, only a privileged few could afford to do so. Today, there are many worry-free ways to support meaningful causes and achieve your philanthropic goals. Consider one of the comfortable commitments featured on this page, and choose the gift that’s right for you.

Last Will and Testament

The easiest and most common way that people chose to leave a lasting legacy is by making a gift to Goodwill in a will. We have received many gifts from thoughtful people who considered it fitting to provide us something from their estates. To get started, simply call your attorney and make an appointment to plan your will. Prior to your meeting, write out all the goals you would like to accomplish in writing your will.

Life Insurance

Simply state on the beneficiary designation form of the insurance policy that Goodwill Industries of Kentucky, Inc. should receive a specific dollar amount, a percentage, the amount left after all other beneficiaries are provided for, or donate the entire policy.

Retirement Accounts and Securities

Designate Goodwill Industries of Kentucky, Inc. as either a primary or contingent beneficiary of your account.

Keep in mind that, after making a commitment by naming Goodwill Industries of Kentucky in your will, on your life insurance policy or retirement funds, you always have the opportunity to change your intentions or to take the commitment a step further through a permanent arrangement such as a life-income gift or an outright gift of property or stocks.
