UPDATE: September 23, 11:26 a.m.
At Goodwill Industries of Kentucky, our employees are like family. And like you, during these last few months we’ve been focused on doing all the precautionary things we need to do to keep everyone safe. With that said, we recognize that a decision has been made with regards to the investigation of the death of Breonna Taylor. We understand that this decision may immediately impact our employees in the Louisville area and possibly beyond.
In the interest of employee security and safety, our retail and career services operations at 909 E. Broadway and our administrative offices at 1325 S. Fourth Street in Louisville will close at noon today, September 23. We will continue to monitor all stores, programs and services throughout the state for further developments and will continue to update our employees via email and text. A decision regarding tomorrow’s schedule will be communicated via email and text by 5 p.m. today.
Human Resources would also like to relay guidelines around payroll for the scenarios listed below:
- If there is an organization-initiated closure during normal business hours, any employee scheduled to work that day will receive regular rate of pay for that day. In this instance, you would either be sent home or instructed not to come in.
- If you decide to call off work for the day due to safety concerns, but your location is open and operating under normal business hours, you may use any available PTO. If you do not have PTO for that day, you will not be paid.
- If you belong to a work group, (POW, Career Services, Admin, SNAP) that is currently working from home, then please continue to do so, unless instructed otherwise by your manager.
During this time of incredible sensitivity, we recognize that you may have further questions and recommend that you freely communicate your concerns with your immediate supervisor. If you need further support, please remember that we have an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) available to you toll-free at 877-533-2363. You will have direct 24/7 access to a consultant who can refer you to a counselor or other resources.
In times of uncertainty it is important to also acknowledge all our retail, career services and administrative staff who all play a critical role in supporting Goodwill Industries of Kentucky with navigating through unprecedented circumstances, and we want to thank you all for your effort and dedication to our mission and the people we service.
We will continue to update this page as more information becomes available.
